Naturally Raised Beef, Vegetables, and Free Range Eggs
The Shaw Road Farm is a 200-acrefamily run farm. Because of the uniqueness of the buildings and its history, and its continued use as a family farm, it is part of the Maine and National Registry of Historic Places.
The unique structure of the barn remains an awesome sight as one walks into it. The farm was first developed as a dairy farm, but since the purchase of the property in 1995 by the farm has taken on a different interest.
Mission and Practice
All products produced on the farm are natural and free from harmful chemicals. Natural conservation practices are used to manage the 146 acres of woodland and 60 acres of crop and grazing land. Management of the land is consistent with attracting wildlife, maximizing forest growth, humane care of farm animals and producing most of the necessary food and nutrient for the animals.
What is Produced
Various garden vegetables, free from chemical pesticides are produced. There are approximately 100 free-range laying hens of different breeds, which produce various colored eggs.
Quality red and black Angus beef cattle are raised from birth. The animals are raised naturally on grass without antibiotics, growth hormones or any other synthetic materials. Rotational grazing method is used to provide natural grass during much of the year. Thismethod provides enough natural grass to feed the cattle. Hay and balage from the fields is used for winter feed. The cattle are free to roam the fields year round.
Beef can be purchased live, directly from the farm or processed. The processed beef can be purchased as a whole, half or quarter cow. Visitors are
welcome by appointment.
